Academic News

Amanda Alquist, College of Law Student, has article accepted by Chapman Law Review (04-14-2008)
College of Law second-year student, Amanda Alquist (J.D. expected 2009), has had an article accepted for publication in the Chapman Law Review. The article, "The Honeymoon is Over, Maybe for Good: The Same-Sex Marriage Issue Before the California Supreme Court," will appear in Chapman's special summer issue on the California Supreme Court.

David Foate, College of Law Student, has article accepted by the National Black Law Journal (04-14-2008)
College of Law second-year student and Editor-in-Chief of the University of La Verne Law Review, David Foate (J.D. expected 2009), has had an article accepted for publication in the National Black Law Journal, published by Columbia Law School. The article, entitled, "Do Federal Courts Really Want Parents Involved?: Using No Child Left Behind to Fight Re-segregation," discusses the most recent U.S. Supreme Court case on school desegregation.

Dr. Issam Ghazzawi's "Motivation Through Setting Goals" Accepted by ABA Journal (04-14-2008)
"Motivation Through Setting Goals: Lessons Learned From A Technology Organization," by Issam Ghazzawi, Assistant Professor of Management, was accepted for publication in the Academy of Business Administration Journal for Summer 2008. D. Ghazzawi presented this research paper at the Academy of Business Administration (ABA) National Conference in Denver in April 2007.

Briseida Luna, College of Law Student, has article accepted by Franklin Business & Law Review (04-14-2008)
College of Law second-year student, Briseida Luna (J.D. expected 2009), has had an article accepted for publication in the Franklin Business & Law Review Quarterly Journal. The article, "The Ledbetter Rule- A Triumph Over Disparate Pay Claims: Is The Supreme Court Granting Employers Free Admission To Engage In Gender Discrimination?," discussed the recent Supreme Court Title VII case on employment discrimination.

Drs. Broussard and Madhuri publish in CBE-Life Science Education (03-17-2008)
Dr. Marga Madhuri, Associate Professor of Education, and Dr. Christine Broussard, Associate Professor of Biology, published the essay, "'Do I Need to Know This for the Exam?' Using Popular Media, Inquiry-based Laboratories, and a Community of Scientific Practice to Motivate Students to Learn Developmental Biology," in CBE-Life Science Education (vol. 7, Spring 2008). While lecture exam scores remained relatively unchanged with implementation of inquiry-based laboratories, laboratory grades improved by at least eight points.
