Faced with a viewing public which tend to simply identify colors rather than take the time to fathom and experience the workings of the relationships, painters often seem to revert to images which for them, whether abstract or figurative, provide instant recognition. Color then is reduced to merely differentiating one form from another, when in reality color and form are inseparable and emerge simultaneously.

Color in the hands of a painter resists verbal definition because it has nothing to do with words, nor with theories, nor with the physics of light. It possesses a powerful emotive quality, unique in each individual. Color is the subject matter of painting. Regardless of style or content, it is the material from which paintings are made.
