Christopher Herren's work involves paintings and site-specific installations that explore the intersections of nature and modern urban and industrial culture. His paintings, which include representational and abstract references, are made with various layers of paint and resin creating rich and complex surfaces. By interweaving materials and techniques the artist's commentary addresses both the condition of painting and our contemporary environment. The works in "mal-i-boo-tay" include primarily landscape abstractions based on a visit to a pristine beach in Malibu, California. Originally from New Orleans, Herren received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Atlanta College of Art in 1993. Herren has been represented by the Rebecca Ibel Gallery since 1999.
