The Athletic Program at ULV

With a history filled with excellence, athletics at La Verne has enjoyed a proud and rich tradition. ULV features 19 intercollegiate athletic teams that include 10 sports for men and nine for women. The University of La Verne Leopards are a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and compete at the NCAA Division III level. ULV has captured numerous SCIAC Championships, and has claimed NCAA team titles in baseball and women's volleyball. La Verne offers some of the finest training facilities in Southern California, including an all-weather track and weight room. With the addition of the brand new state-of-the art ULV Swimming Complex serving as the home for swimming and water polo, La Verne has enhanced its reputation as a first-rate athletic program.

Mission Statement of the Athletic Department

The mission of the Athletic Department of the University of La Verne is to distinguish itself as a quality athletic program through the pursuit of excellence based on sound educational principles and practices that operates within the philosophy and guidelines of the University of La Verne, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division III.

Tenets

  1. We believe that the Athletic Department should support students in their efforts to reach a high level of performance by providing them with facilities, equipment, competent staff and competitive opportunities commensurate with the SCIAC and similar NCAA Division III institutions.
  2. We believe that the Athletic Department should be controlled, financed and staffed through the same procedures as any other undergraduate department at the University of La Verne.
  3. We believe that athletics is an integral part of the liberal arts education and is committed to the development and understanding of sportsmanship, values and ethics.
  4. Our commitment to promote the athletic and academic integrity of the University of La Verne is reflected by efforts to recruit quality student-athletes that have demonstrated the ability to be successful in a course of study leading to an academic degree.
  5. We are committed to providing equal emphasis to men's and women's sports. Every student-athlete, male and female, majority and minority, in all sports will receive equitable and fair treatment.
  6. The Athletic Department encourages broad participation and the multiple-sport athlete by providing a variety of athletic opportunities in varsity sports.
  7. We are committed to the belief that athletic administration on this campus holds a primary concern for the welfare, health and safety of our student-athletes.
