Shorts can now be found for almost any occasion. Certain pairings, such as a simple tank, a sequin top, stiletto heels or flats can help achieve a look ranging from casual to sophisticated. Freshman Madaiko Miller and sophomore Charde Shields believe that finding cuts that compliment their figures comes first and the style comes second.

The thought of putting on shorts can be a little scary. However this spring, it’s all about showing some skin. But don’t fret because this season there are a variety of shapes, prints and cuffs to choose from. Therefore, it is possible to find the perfect pair for you.

Shorts are showing up all over this season, proving that they are not just reserved for summer days.

With lengths ranging from the knee all the way up to the thigh, shorts can look chic and sophisticated even on the coolest of days.

Short shorts are especially popular this spring, and University of La Verne students are ready for this trend to hit.

“I already bought four pairs of short shorts and I plan on wearing them with heels, but it’s been too cold,” senior business administration major Rheana Trejo said. “They are so cute. Two pairs are plaid and the others are khaki.”

Stars like Jessica Simpson recently have been sporting short shorts with heels, which is a popular pairing this season.

One tip to remember is that you should always wear them with wedges. The height will elongate your legs and give you better posture. The wedges will also give the illusion of slimmer calves.

The ultimate rule is the shorter the shorts, the lower the heel.

On cooler days, women are wearing opaque footless tights and leggings under their shorts. Solid black, black-and-white striped and white lace are just some of the many options being worn.

Women are pairing this trend with cropped jackets and long sleeved tops.

“I’m not into the whole tights thing. I can do without,” Trejo said.

However, when it gets warmer, its best to lose the tights and opt for a flowing, bohemian-esque blouse. Steer clear of skimpy tops because this season modesty is key and you don’t want to go overboard.

For a more sophisticated look, short shorts can also be paired up with a long sleeved collared shirt, a sporty jacket or even a blazer.

Houndstooth plaid, pinstripe, camouflauge and khaki are the most common fabrics found for shorts this season. These prints are best worn in neutral colors, especially black and white.

“I always wear short shorts,” senior liberal arts major Danielle Davisson said.

Women are not the only ones excited for this trend to make its mark on campus.

ULV male students are counting down the days until they see ULV women like Davisson show some skin.

“If you’re a girl in short shorts, I love you,” senior business major Doug Green said.

Senior religion major Zach Lord agreed.

“Girls in short shorts are hot, guys in short shorts are not,” he said.

However short shorts do not necessarily meet everyone’s taste.

“I have never worn short shorts, never will and I think they are trash,” junior psychology major Christa Costello said.

However for women like Costello, Bermuda shorts may be the answer.
These knee-length shorts reveal less leg, but are still fashionable at the same time.

Bermuda shorts are tailored ?with a looser fit, higher waist and cuffs.
Women are pairing these shorts with trench coats, tucked-in blouses and polo shirts, creating a perfect – yet unique – ladylike look for the office.

And pretty much any shoe will work well with Bermuda shorts. From flat tennis shoes, to low-heeled wedges, each style works great with this silhouette.

Bermuda shorts can be found in a wide variety of shops, such as Forever 21, Hollister, Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom.

“You can dress them up or dress them down,” senior economics major Pamela Levy said.

So no matter what the length, fabric or style, shorts can be a truly versatile, polished look for women this spring.

“Anyone can wear shorts,” senior business administration major Sophia Ornelas said. “As long as you feel confident, you will look sexy in them.”
