Hat’s off to Hanawalt’s return
Posted April 18, 2008

Three years ago the historic Hanawalt House caught fire and has been a boarded-up eyesore ever since. We are excited that in the future this will no longer be the case. The Hanawalt House has officially begun the restoration process.

Two factors have slowed the renovation of this La Verne landmark. First off, since the building is historic, the renovation must maintain the original structure from its outside appearance right down to the type of wood used.

Additionally the renovations had to be approved by the city of La Verne.

Now that those two tasks have been taken care of, the Hanawalt House is on its way back to being restored to its old self but this time bigger and better, and we couldn’t be happier about it. The new exterior will look similar to the original but improved and the interior will be remodeled. In addition, the structure will be expanded and completed by Spring 2009.

With the new Campus Center and the soon to be renovated Hanawalt House, Second Street is cleaning up quite nicely and, as students, we take pride in our remodeled and renovated campus.

We just wanted to use this opportunity to express how happy we are that the restoration of this historical house has begun. We thank all of you involved in the process and are anxious to see the final product.

Let's all honor earth day
