Nike Air Force Ones, K Swiss and Reebok Classics are some of the many shoes in senior Roger Logan’s closet. “When it comes to buying shoes, it is important to coordinate,” Logan said. “If you have an orange and white shirt, you have to buy shoes that match with that outfit.” |

Cleanliness is godliness when it comes to men’s shoes; sanitation and style may play a larger role for a man’s little black book than he ever realized.
A man’s shoes can reveal a lot about his personality—more then he may think.
“It’s definitely the first thing I look at,” said Katie Watkins, a sophomore social science major. “I think (shoes) explain their personality.”
Shoes are the canvas onto which a personality portrait can be painted.
Whether a man wears a pair of Vans or Nike Air Force Ones, he’s definitely exuding pieces of himself through his footwear.
Many women today will make a split second decision about a man by just glancing to the floor.
“If a guy’s wearing dirty shoes, I think he’s messy and doesn’t care about his overall appearance,” said Maritza Galabiz, a junior sociology major.
Converse, Air Force Ones, penny loafers, Vans, Etnies and Diesels all exert personality traits just by their style– and if any of these shoes are dirty, then these traits include laziness.
If a man is rocking a pair of Converse, then he’s a man who usually likes punk/alternative music and is pretty laid back about life.
He may enjoy more artistic ventures and tends to be multi-dimensional.
“Converse are nice,” said Allie Fernandez, a sophomore philosophy major.
“They’re always a classic, they always stay in style.”
If a man is sitting in class clad in Air Force Ones, then he could be a man who enjoys listening to hip-hop and may even free-style.
This man has a definite sense of cool.
“(Shoes) are an expression of who you are,” said Mike Anello, a senior movement and sports science major. “I’m big on Nike and Air Force Ones for casual wear.”
Watkins also noted another type of man who sports leather penny loafers.
This man gives off the vibe of being serious about his life, which can also mean that he is reliable.
The man who wears Vans to school is usually someone who likes the beach and all the California trends that come with it.
This is a relaxed man who cares about his appearance, but doesn’t want to over do it.
A man who is skating around campus in a pair of Etnies is considered the bad boy type who will be fun and adventurous; this man lives in the moment.
Finally the man who is gliding around in a pair of Diesels is the trendy man who knows what is in the window at Dolce & Gabbana and is very in tuned to fashion.
This man tends to be a little more uptight than the others, but he also is driven and that shows dedication.
These types of men mentioned are just templates that many ULV men may be able to fit into. However, everyone is their own person, has their own individual style and cannot be fully described through footwear.
But it is important to note the large impression that shoes are playing in the dating game today.
Conversation seems less necessary when a man’s shoes can say it all.
