The Leopards opened the first round of the National California Athletic Assocation Regional Softball tournament with a 4-1 win against Trinity Thursday at Redlands.
Opening with two scoreless innings, La Verne stepped it up with four runs by the end of the third.
Junior catcher Debbie Bugarin singled to third base and was taken home when sophomore Jodi Lindsay hit a two-run shot over the right field fence. Senior third baseman Kelley Silagyi then sent a double to center field. Junior center fielder Amanda Jones then hit an RBI single, scoring Silagyi. When sophomore Morgan Dobis singled into left field, Jones scored the last run of the game.
Trinity’s lone run also came in the third inning.
Advancing through the first game, the Leopards faced Chapman in a second round Thursday night. Results were not available at press time.
