The Campus Times, La Verne Magazine and LVTV recently received numerous top awards – beating out such schools as UC Riverside and Cal Poly Pomona – in an annual journalism competition sponsored by the Inland Southern California Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Sweeping both the Best TV Feature and Best Magazine Non-Fiction Story categories and winning second place for Best Newspaper, La Verne took home 15 awards in total – more than any other college or university from the Southern California region in the contest.

• First Place for Best News Story went to Len Ly for her story, “Master Plan Debated.”
• Second Place for Best News Story went to Laura Bucio for “LV Unites for Immigration Rights.”
• Second Place for Best Feature Story went to Nila Priyambodo and Tracy Spicer for “Yakety Yak.”
• Third Place for Best Feature Story went to Christine Collier for “Non Traditional students growing in numbers.”
• First Place for Best Sports Story was Angie Gangi for “Volleyball Defends Perfect Record.”
• Third Place for Best Column went to Tracy Spicer for “Futbol bridges generation gap.”
• Third Place for Best Editorial went to Campus Times staff for, “A $21 million shopping list.”
• Third Place for Best Page Layout went to Kelly Rivas for “War of the Greeks.”

LVTV:
• First Place for Best TV Feature Segment went to Christine Moitoso for “Vineyard Marketplace.”
• Second Place for Best Feature Segment went to Taline Baghdadlian for “Cal Poly Pumpkin Patch.”
• Third Place for Best Feature went to Alexis Moreno for “Satisfying your Sweet Tooth.”

La Verne Magazine:
• First Place for Best Magazine Non-Fiction Story went to Nicole Knight for “Making a contest a career.”
• Second Place for Best Magazine Non-Fiction Story went to Kady Bell and Jessica Bell for “Hey, hey, my, my...rock ‘n’ roll can never die.”
• Third place Best Magazine Non-Fiction Story went to Andres Rivera for “Unlocking Somvichian and his treasures.”
