The Office of Information Technology and the two newly developed systems for the Univeristy of La Verne Web site are making life easier for current students and staff at ULV.
The Web-based workorder system and the virtual campus tour were both developed during the summer by the Web team and are currently in use.
The Web-based workorder system is a way for people to file and track the requests they make to OIT.
In the past, questions or requests for OIT were done through the help desk or by e-mail.
“The system allows you to track your requests and see exactly where they are,” said Clive Houston-Brown, chief information officer.
The new workorder system can be accessed in the OIT Web site under “helpdesk.” Everyone can log into the system by using their ULV e-mail address as their ID and default password “workorder.”
“It’s more convenient since we can do it at any time,” said junior criminology major Patricia Carrillo. “We don’t have to call when there is someone available at the help desk.”
“The system gives ULV the same method of communication most of the world is going through: self service,” Houston-Brown said.
The second new addition to the Web site is the virtual campus tours.
There are three different options. The first is panoramic tours that allow you to see certain parts of the University at a 360 degree view.
The slide shows option has different slide shows of the University in its early years and past events. Finally, there are the Web cams.
“I didn’t even know this existed,” Danyel Fogarty, a sophomore at ULV, said. “I was pleasantly surprised.”
There are three Web cams; one located to view the football field, another to view the University quad, and the last one to view the progress inside the super tents.
“It is a window to ULV to the outside world,” Houston-Brown said.
