Three men were arrested after a three-hour standoff by La Verne police in conjunction with surrounding law enforcement agencies Sept. 22 at the 1800 block of Genessee Drive. When police responded to a call about a burglary in progress around noon, several suspects fled the house and entered an occupied home, La Verne Police Department Capt. Rick Aragon said. Volunteers and police cadets were sent to La Verne Heights Elementary School, located near the scene, to escort the children out of class after it went into lockdown, Principal Gary Temkin said. “I was coming with my girlfriend to pick up her little sister and we saw the police units,” Lance Beckford, San Dimas resident, said. At approximately 3 p.m. the senior citizens that were in the house with the suspects were released and two of the suspects were arrested. The third suspect was arrested about an hour and a half later, Aragon said. |
