Andres Rivera By December University of La Verne students and employees should be able to log into their University email and MyULV accounts with a single click. To make the system easier and more efficient for users, a new central portal will be activated. “It will have more improved service and convenience,” said Clive Houston-Brown, chief information officer. There are four systems that students use most: MyULV, email, Leopac and Blackboard. Houston-Brown characterizes the new central portal, Luminis, as a “one stop shop” where students and faculty will be able to take advantage of a new interface that will combine the four systems into one. In its initial debut, set for December, or January at the latest, the email and MyULV system will be combined. As an added bonus the email storage capacity will be expanded to nearly double its current limit. Blackboard, the calendar, Leopac and other new features will be added later in the form of channels. The completed portal will have a user-friendly interface with an appearance similar to other popular Web sites where contents are separated in to channels that take the user to other areas within the same site. There will also be a complete master calendar, access to University contacts through an address book, campus and personal announcements, and the ability to customize features. Although a time schedule for the added channels is not set in stone, Houston-Brown hopes to expand the Luminis system channels within six to eight months after its debut.
