David Lynch speaks at UCI

Award-winning film director David Lynch will speak at the University of California Irvine at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday as part of his “Consciousness, Creativity and the Brain” college tour.

Lynch, whose films include “The Elephant Man,” “Lost Highway” and “Mulholland Drive,” will discuss the positive effects of Transcendental Meditation, a technique he believes should be taught to young people to cope with stress. The event will also feature experts and a live demonstration of the Transcendental Meditation technique.

“Consciousness, Creativity and the Brain” will be held at the Crystal Cove Auditorium in the UCI Student Center. Admission is free. For more information call (949) 824-2669 or visit www.davidlynchtour.org.

Oscar-winning docs screening

The 1951 and 1952 Academy Award-winning documentaries will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater. As part of the “Oscar Docs: The First Twenty Years of Academy Award-Winning Documentaries,” documentary feature winners “Kon-Tiki” and “The Sea around Us” and documentary short winners “Benjy” and “Neighbours” will be shown.

The Linwood Dunn Theater is located at 1313 Vine Street in Hollywood.

Public Debate

Lordsburg Debate Union is holding its first public debate of the school year at 4 p.m. on Nov. 17 in La Fetra Auditorium. The motion for debate will be: This house supports sorority and fraternity houses.
