Student Career Advisor (SCA) Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the new Student Career Advisor Team. Student Career Advisors (SCA) work in conjunction with Career Services at the University of La Verne to reach out to traditional-aged, undergraduate students, to assist in the resume and cover letter writing process.

The Student Career Advisor is a leadership position, which allows the SCAs to share their knowledge and practice one-on-one advising with our student population. Being a part of the Student Career Advisor Team will allow you to help students realize their job related strengths. A Student Career Advisor must be professional, willing to work with a diverse population, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and outgoing.

Career Services encourages all traditional-aged, undergraduate students to apply for this rewarding position. Student Career Advisors are paid from Federal Work Study Funds. (If you are not allocated Federal Work Study Funds you are still eligible to apply for the position as a non-paid internship). Student Career Advisors make their own schedule and work a minimum of 6 hours a week. Student Career Advisors must have a minimum GPA of 2.7 or better.

Job Description

Title: Student Career Advisor

Requirements:

GPA: 2.7 and above
Hours: Minimum of 6 hours per week

Personal Attributes:

Professional: Student Career Advisors must maintain a professional demeanor while conducting student appointments and working with staff and faculty.
Outgoing: Student Career Advisors must be outgoing and friendly.
Dependable: Student Career Advisors must work well with little supervision from others. They must be punctual, reliable, and able to meet appointments.

Duties:

Resume Review: Student Career Advisors must be competent to review and help prepare student resumes.
Resume Workshops: Student Career Advisors will work together to plan a few informational workshops each semester for traditional-aged, undergraduate students.
Meetings: Student Career Advisors must be able to attend weekly meetings with professional staff to discuss relevant issues, appointment challenges, and planning of SCA workshops.
Training: Training regarding resume and cover letter writing will be provided to all accepted applicants.
