Admission Requirements

MPA Admission Requirements

At ULV, we accept applications and admit qualified students throughout the year.

To be eligible for acceptance into the Master of Public Administration program, applicants are evaluated on undergraduate GPA; two letters of academic and/or professional recommendation; a current resume; and a statement of purpose, which will also serve as a sample of the applicant's writing ability. In addition, the program may require an applicant interview and other additional supporting materials. The program balances all of these measures in making a decision for admission.

Please note: Students with no previous full-time public or non-profit sector work experience will be required to take an additional 3 units of internship experience during the course of their program. This does not count as part of the required 39 units for completion.

Requirement: M.P.A. students must have access to the Internet and an e-mail account.

International students with a degree from an institution, where English is not the primary language of instruction and of the geographic area, must establish minimal proficiency in English. The English language requirement could be accomplished by one of the following: a) a minimum score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language - TOEFL of 550 (computer based TOEFL of 213), or more; and b) a satisfactory completion of the University of La Verne English Proficiency Test (EPT - 5.0 and higher). International Students with F-1 or J-1 visas may apply to and attend only the central campus in La Verne, California.

TRANSFER CREDIT: Up to 12 semester hours of graduate-level credit may be transferred from other ULV graduate programs or other universities into the Master of Public Administration program. Courses must be from a regionally accredited school and directly relevant to the M.P.A. and must be approved by the M.P.A. Chair. Additionally, transfer courses must have been taken within the last five years and the grades earned must be at least a B or better.
