A letter from Dr. George Keeler, Department Chair.

Dear Prospective Student:

Welcome to the start of your educational and professional career. I invite you to review the pages contained here so you can learn about our award-winning Department and its many programs. Our University of La Verne Communications Department is considered among the best programs in the state of California. My department faculty and I believe we have much to offer you at ULV.

Our journalism program produces two regular publications—the Campus Times, ULV’s weekly campus newspaper, and La Verne Magazine, a twice-yearly full color city magazine serving the city of La Verne. Our broadcast program operates KULV-FM, the University’s radio station; and LVTV-3, the community access television station for the city of La Verne. Student work in these areas regularly earns national/state awards and honors from professional and collegiate organizations across the country. For example, May 2003, the newspaper, magazine, radio and television stations all earned unprecedented sweepstakes awards in state competition. That means ULV communications students hold No. 1 ranking in the state bragging rights. Likewise, as you can imagine, our graduates hold prestigious positions in the media, both locally and nationally. (View a full listing of ULV's recent National/State awards)

We offer a high quality program with many different course offerings. Because of small class size, students receive hands-on training with their professors to feel comfortable with technology. As you probably know, an education in communications is a gateway to many successful career paths as we enter the 21st century.

For more general information about the University of La Verne, please email our Admissions Office at admissions@ulv.edu. If you have specific questions about the Communications Department, please email the professors found on these web pages. And if you are in the area, my faculty and I would be pleased to show you our facilities or allow you to sit in on our classes.

I believe our greatest strength is the personalized attention the faculty gives our students. I would like to extend this opportunity to you to discover what our programs have to offer. We feel that it is important to be able to talk to a person in your field of interest right from the start to help you find your place in your career and in our Department. My faculty, staff and I look forward to your email or call.

Sincerely,

Dr. George Keeler
Professor of Journalism
Communications Department Chair
