In an effort to encourage a commitment to environmentally responsible commuting as well as to help reduce the financial impact of the parking permit requirement, the university is offering alternatives and incentives that will fit nearly every personal situation. While such decisions require changes in daily routine, it will also provide personal satisfaction in knowing those decisions will help improve not only the campus environment but also that of our community, region and world.
Additional information on commuting options and incentives are available on the university Web site at http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/, or by contacting the University Transportation Coordinator's office in Human Resources.
University employees participating in any qualified commuting options will be required to submit monthly reports in a timely fashion to qualify and receive earned Rideshare Scrip. Individuals must conform to the conditions as set forth in the university's commuting policies. The submission of falsified reports will be considered a breach of agreement and will result in the forfeiture of all earned incentives and benefits as well as potential administrative reprimand. For details, visit http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/rules.phtml.
Van Pools - The university is contracting with VPSI, Inc., a private company, to provide a van pool program to employees. The University Transportation Coordinator, located in Human Resources, will organize and coordinate employees interested in sharing a university-leased van. Groups will be established by matching those individuals who reside in adjacent areas, who share common working schedules and/or specific personal requirements. The cost of each van pool - paid rental, insurance and vehicle maintenance - will be subsidized by the university and L.A. County Metro. Designated van pool spaces will be established in selected university lots. For additional information, visit http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/vanpool.phtml.
Car Pools - The University Transportation Coordinator will assist employees interested in carpooling. Each car pool coming to the university with ULV employees (2-4 employees in the vehicle) will receive one (1) parking permit at no cost and each university employee in the vehicle will receive $1 in rideshare scrip per day.
Emergency Ride Provision - Should an employee who uses alternative commuting (van pool or car pool) be faced with an emergency situation requiring him/her to leave prior to the end of their normal work day, the university will make provisions to provide a ride to their primary residence. For more information, visit http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/incentives.phtml.
Public Transportation - Use of available public transportation (bus or Metrolink) is encouraged by the university. To support utilization of this option, participating individuals who make use of public transportation for at least 50 percent of their commuting route to campus will receive $2 scrip per day. For additional information, visit http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/pt.phtml.
Alternative Fuel Vehicles/Hybrids - Employees driving alternative fuel or hybrid vehicles to campus will receive a parking permit at no charge. The AFV/Hybrid parking permit is only to be used with the qualifying vehicle and cannot be transferred for use with another vehicle.
Cycling/Walking - By cycling (including electric scooters) or walking, individuals are committing to a style of commuting that is environmentally friendly and, in the case of walking, health-conscious. To help encourage these efforts, the university will provide participating individuals $2 scrip per day. The university is purchasing additional bicycle racks to be installed at several central locations on campus. For additional information, visit http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/bike.phtml.
Motorcycles/Motorized Scooters - Employees commuting to campus riding motorcycles or licensed motorized scooters are required to park in designated university motorcycle spaces with no parking permit required.
Rideshare Scrip - A valuable incentive to participating in selected ULV rideshare programs, scrip can be used in lieu of cash on campus at Davenport Dining Hall and the University Book Store. It is also redeemable at a wide variety of businesses located throughout La Verne. A list of locations accepting ULV rideshare scrip is available from the University Transportation Coordinator or on the university Website at http://www.ulv.edu/rideshare/scrip.phtml.
