The University of La Verne’s Campus Diversity Initiative is offering grants for up to $500 to be used by academic, ethnic or cultural student organizations.
The Student Club Campus Diversity Initiative Grants will be used to help fund activities such as guest speakers, outreach activities with local schools and membership drives that enhance the diversity of the club.
“We decided to give money to student organizations for activities, and a boost to organizations that need help getting started,” said Sarah Johnson, associate professor of physics and CDI team leader for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Grants may also be used to aid in the formation of a new academic, ethnic or cultural club.
This will be the first year the grants will be offered to students.
These grants were created as part of a larger three-year diversity grant the University received from the Irvine Foundation.
The Irvine Foundation, was founded in 1937 to benefit non-profit organizations and people all over California.
Johnson is heading the taskforce that will review the student applications and disperse the grant money.
The winners will be announced in April.
The deadline, originally set for today, was extended to Monday.
Students and student groups interested in submitting applications should contact Chip West, campus activities director, acwest@ulv.edu or (909) 593-3511 Ext. 4251.
Questions should be addressed to Sarah Johnson at johnsosa@ulv.edu, or (909) 593-3511 Ext. 4432.
