Among Reed Gratz’s assortment of interesting musical instruments is his accordion from Los Angeles’ Chinatown. Gratz, professor of music, has an upcoming concert in Founders Auditorium at 8 p.m. Friday Joining Gratz on stage will be Michael O'Neill, Max Bennett, Michael Bennett and Steve Biondo.

Reed Gratz, professor of music, will be leading a group of talented musicians at 8 p.m. tonight to perform the works of Brazilian jazz composer Antonio Carlos Jobim in Founders Auditorium.

Jobim’s work will be performed by Gratz along with many other talented musicians.

Gratz an internationally recognized jazz artist, will be joined by guitarist Michael O’Neill, bassist Max Bennett, drummer Michael Bennett and percussionist Steven Biondo to perform musical pieces composed by one of the most original jazz composers of the 1960s.

Jobim, was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Rio De Janiero, Brazil.

His career spanned decades.

Jobim recorded several albums as a jazz guitarist, pianist and singer.

His frist was recorded in 1954, as a backup singer in Tom and His Band.

The work of Jobim influenced many, including the Bossa Nova fad of 1962.

Gratz is a two-time Fulbright scholar and has released three albums.

“The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim” as performed by Gratz and friends is sure to make an interestingly hip evening.
