Stephen Morgan will have to make room for one more hat on his rack, as he was named Chairman of the Board for the LeRoy Haynes Center for Children and Family Services in La Verne.

Morgan, the president of the University of La Verne, was sworn in to his new title on Feb. 14 by emeritus board member and Pomona businessman Fred Frehling, who also installed the other new officers.

The LeRoy Haynes Center was founded in 1946 by "Uncle" LeRoy Haynes to provide an outreach for abused and emotionally disturbed children.

The center is a nonprofit organization operating as a residential treatment program, providing a non-public school, community mental health outreach program, and a foster family agency. The center has facilities that can house 70 residents and serve as many as 200 clients through all of its programs and services at any one time.

Morgan is joined by a host of other local residents including First Vice-Chair Will Dale of Claremont, Second Vice-Chair Patricia Lobello of San Dimas, Treasurer Kevin McCarthy, executive vice president of Pomona First Federal Bank and Trust, and Secretary Bob Mason, also of Claremont.

The president and CEO of the LeRoy Haynes Center, Darrell Paulk, is pleased with his new collection of officers and looks brightly upon the future.

"We are very proud of the men and women who have gathered to guide this institution in the year ahead and under Dr. Morgan's leadership, I know we will continue to achieve great things for the children in our care," Paulk said.
