As the academic year is coming to an end, the Associated Student Federation Forum is working on the year's final events and starting to plan for the 2003-2004 calendar.

Last semester, ASF held several events, attended by many students. Cosmic Bowling, a popular event for commuters and campus residents alike, was held several times throughout the semester, including the week of Homecoming. Pizza and karaoke at Warehouse Pizza, was another event enjoyed by many students during Homecoming week. ASF also held the annual winter formal this year at the Sheraton Hotel. The organization held several school wide lunches in the quad as well.

ASF still has some events on the agenda for the rest of the spring semester. This week was "Body Image Week," with activities involving stress relief and sleep management, makeovers, mocktail night and yoga night. Other sponsors for the week's events included the Foothill Aids Project, Planned Parenthood and the University of La Verne's Counseling Center.

Scheduled for this month is Commuter Day, tentatively set for March 27. Commuter Day will include a club fair, schoolwide lunch in the quad and a professional band.

In April, students can attend the "Heads versus Feds" debate. Additionally, Greek Week is scheduled for April.

May 2 is a comedy show. May 9 will feature the leadership banquet for ASF, Landis Scholars and Leadership Education and Development. There are also two more Cosmic Bowling nights scheduled for this semester.

As for the advocacy side of ASF, the federation is working on a peace rally with the Model United Nations club, said Travis Berry, vice president of ASF.

ASF is beginning to plan for next year's events, such as Homecoming and Winter Formal.

"We need a theme and activities for Homecoming Week," Berry said. "We are also starting to look for places to have the winter formal."

Ideas for next year's events include having more karaoke and pizza nights at Warehouse because of such a positive response during Homecoming Week, more school wide lunches and possibly sponsoring Orientation Week again. This year, ASF sponsored Orientation Week T-shirts.

Overall, ASF has been a hard working organization that has been successful with its activities and events thus far.

"I'm very happy with how the year went. We were able to incorporate activities students wanted," Berry said. " I am happy with our board; many of them are freshmen. They are very energetic and get business done. ASF has a promising future for the next few years."

Berry said he looks forward to having just as many activities next year. He also reminded students they are always welcome to bring their new ideas to the ASF meetings. Meetings are held at 3 p.m. every Friday in the West Dining Room.
