Track beats Oxy and Cal Lu

The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams are
4-0 after competing against Occidental College and Cal Lutheran University
Saturday at Cal Tech.
The women beat Occidental College 125-69 and Cal Lutheran 123-59. The
men beat Occidental College 120-73 and Cal Lutheran 141-55.
On the field, freshman Dionte Holloway placed first in the high jump
with a leap of 6'07".
Senior John Horton shined on the field as he placed first in the long
jump with a jump of 21'09. 75" and in the triple jump with a jump of
44'03. 75".
In the women's jump competition, senior Liz Lucsko long jumped 17'06"
to win the competition.
In the throw competition, All-American senior Brandon Tedrow scored
big points in the javelin as he threw a National Collegiate Athletic Association
provisional nationals qualifying mark of 189'11. 75". Tedrow also placed
second in the men's pole vault, with a vault of 12'06".
In the hammer throw, junior Bobby Vail launched the hammer 165'01",
winning the competition.
On the track, the men's and women's 4x100 relay teams were both on top
of their game. The women's relay team won with a time of 48.99. This time
also qualified the women's relay team provisionally for the NCAA national
tournament.
The men won with a time of 42.88.
In the sprints, senior Dimitri Watson placed first in the 200-meter
dash with a blazing time of 22.60 seconds. Junior Eric Thomas placed third
in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.77 seconds.
In the women's 200-meter dash, senior Dejuana Satchell finished first
with a time of 25.37 seconds, Satchell also qualified for the NCAA nationals
provisionally in the 200-meter dash. Transfer student Deonne McClean was
not far behind, placing third with a time of 26.51 seconds.
Junior Ejé Ash and senior Amber Clayton placed first and second
in the women's 100-meter dash.
Eric Thomas, Brandon Jones and Will Lawson placed first, third and fourth
respectively in the men's 400-meter dash. Lawson and Jones also took first
and second place in the 400 Hurdles.
Akia Hason placed first for the women's hurdle competition.
In the distance events, sophomore Kelly Wood took over as he placed
first in the men's 5000-meter race and the men's steeplechase.
In the men's 1500-meter race, sophomore Cecilio Barrera was on top with
a run of 4:10.
"It was great to beat a team like Oxy that has a tremendous amount
of resources and tradition," said head coach Pat Widolff.
After the big win for the ULV men's and women's teams, Widolff said
"There was a total team effort from both the men's and the women's
teams."
The Leopards' next meet, the ULV invitational will take place at 11
a.m., March 22 at Ortmayer Stadium.
ULV's next conference meet is April 5 at the University of Redlands.
