Walter Cronkite reminisced on past media coverage and of past achievements before thousands of college students through the University Satellite Seminar Series on Monday.

"A Conversation with Walter Cronkite" was presented via satellite to colleges and universities across the United States, including the University of La Verne. The seminar was hosted by the Museum of Television and Radio.

The seminar series, in its eighth year, allows students at participating schools to speak directly to the panelists via telephone, which in this case was Cronkite.

About 20 University of La Verne students and faculty saw this telecast in La Fetra Auditorium.

Don Pollock, professor of communications, was able to get through the telephone line and asked Cronkite a question regarding his retirement.

In the past, professors would just record the event and show it to their students, but the University's technology has improved, said Mike Laponis, professor of communications.

"Now, we (can) go to the next step and fully participate and actually ask questions to the guest," Laponis said.
