A criminology club at the University of La Verne is in the process of becoming official for the fall semester. It will be for students who are interested or majoring in any form of law.

President and Vice President of the criminology club, junior criminology majors Brandon and Calvin Beccera, are responsible for the club's founding.

For the past three years the two have patiently waited for a club to be established within the criminology department.

Now that their patience has run out, they are forming it all on their own.

They are also trying to implement a chapter of the National Criminology Honors Society at ULV.

For this they have to find someone who is willing to be the head of the society along with an executive board.

The criminology club will offer students a lot of experience and will provide knowledge that will prepare them for future careers in law.

It will consist of many guest speakers from different fields such as FBI agents, lawyers, police officers and more.

Right now Beccera and Brandon are in the process of trying to sign people up who are interested.

They have posted flyers about the criminology club throughout the ULV campus with the necessary information needed, along with their contact information.

Because they are trying to get people together and figure out what everybody's schedules are there is no set date for meetings.

The criminology club has already met three times this semester.

The meetings are held inside the student center in the ASF office. Times and dates are posted by email through Calvin and Brandon Beccera.

The club has many committees to offer students who are interested in joining.

Right now students are running for positions in the club.

"It's very exciting right now and it's very well structured," said Calvin Beccera.

He hopes that students who are interested in the field of law and criminology will come and see what it's all about and see if they may want a career change.

By Fall of 2002 the criminology club is expected to be legit and completely structured.

"I think it's going to be different than a lot of other clubs on campus," said Calvin Beccera, "because it's going to be real active with guest speakers and it will give students a chance to network and experience what they may get into as a career."
