"If you want it, you'll win it," were the words head coach Julie Kline told her softball team after a disappointing loss last Friday to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Cal Lutheran.

Cal Lutheran stole one from the Leopards by a score of 3-2, moving their record to 32-4-1.

It was a Friday afternoon game and the University of La Verne stepped on the diamond with complete confidence.

One bad inning for ULV ruined their chance at a perfect conference record.

"We didn't hit in key situations," senior Kim Schrepfer said. " We left a lot of runners on base."

Cal Lu scored three runs in the first that cost La Verne the game. The Leopards did not lose their confidence after their loss and came back Saturday to upset Cal Lu in the next two games.

"We realized how important these two conference games were. So we stepped up and played to our full potential," Schrepfer said.

Mandi Tillema was in the circle during game one as the Leopards mercied Cal Lu, 8-0.

Tillema had five strikeouts and one walk.

On the offensive end, the Leopards broke out their bats and created many scoring opportunities.

Junior Gina Meza went two for three and contributed with an RBI. Sophomore Brandi Thompson went two for two.

La Verne went into game two expecting a second win, and the women gained it easily, 9-3.

Sue Whitcher started game two and pitched seven complete inning. With a win behind her, she allowed no walks and struck out two.

Schrepfer stepped up big on offense going three for four.

During the weekend La Verne improved to 32 wins.

The Leopards are currently ranked seventh in the nation and will face the the Claremont Mudd Scripps Stags at 4 p.m. today at Wheeler Park.
