The Westfield Pacers, at the Westfield Shopping Town Center (formerly
the West Covina Plaza), are a group of people who come together to jog,
run or walk around the mall for exercise.
They arrive at 9 a.m., an hour before the mall opens.
Anna Lu, marketing coordinator for Westfield Shopping Town, said, "
Our walking program has been going on for 11 years now. It gives people
from the community a chance to walk in a safe place before the mall opens."
Lu explained that interested community members can sign up on Mondays
at 9 a.m. Registration is free and upon becoming a member, participants
receive a special button that they wear while walking.
The Pacers log their miles and after reaching a certain number, various
prizes are awarded. Citrus Valley Health Partners sponsors the Pacers and
provides the awards.
Every other month, a continental breakfast is served, along with other
activities, such as fashion shows and arts and crafts. The Pacers volunteer
their time and effort to put this on.
The Westfield Pacers gather at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Westfield
Shopping Town in West Covina. For more information, call (626) 960-8032.
