This week marked the annual Greek Week festivities for all fraternities and sororities on campus.

All Greeks participated in a week packed full of events and competitions, including Rock and sheet painting, letter day, a scholarship banquet, Greek Olympics and soccer.

“This week was designed to bring all Greeks together to have fun and compete, but also to raise money for the community,” said Jill Hundshamer, Greek Week co-coordinator.

Monday night in the student center Greeks gathered for the sheet and rock painting.

Each of the groups proudly displayed their spirit and teamwork, with the final products a direct reflection of their time and creativity.

The group philanthropy project, Penny Wars, was designed to raise money for the White Cane Society, which raises money for the blind. Each fraternity and sorority had a collection jug.

Each group competes to collect as many pennies as possible, but coins and dollars offset the number of pennies. The objective was to come out as close to zero at the end of the competition.

At the end of the week an overall winner is determined based on a points system.

The events that accumulate points are the letters day, Penny Wars and Lip Sync. The first place team earns six points and it continues down to one point.

On letters day, each of the fraternities and sororities displayed their letters on the lawn in front of Founders Hall that were painted to match their themes for Lip Sync.

Phi Delta Theta took first place in that competition earning the fraternity six points.

Wednesday night was the Greek Olympics in the Old Gym and Thursday was all-Greek soccer.

Phi Delta Theta is expected to be among the top competitors after coming back from a three semesters suspension for having strippers at an event.

“The Phi Delts are psyched to compete,” said Sigma Kappa president Tami Etheridge.

The week culminates with Lip Sync, the final and largest event, to be held on Saturday in Founders Auditorium.

Each of the groups picks a theme and performs the songs of choice with choreography and lip sync.

“Lip Sync is definitely the most entertaining to watch,” Etheridge said.

“I’m excited for my organization, me being the only active member to ever have been in one,” said Phi Delta Theta president Steve Wetzel.

“They’re all warming up to the excitement. It’s a big event,” he said.
