Celebrity Series: Jonathan Mack

Internationally-known pianist Timothy Durkovic teams up with tenor Jonathan Mack in a performance at 8 p.m. tonight in Founders Auditorium. Mack, who has recorded works by Brahms, Schumann and Rossini, has performed throughout the United States and Europe, but tonight he will team up with ULV’s artist-in-residence. Music Club: West African Drums

Come see the Kid’s Music Club’s performance-featuring the ULV West African Ensemble – under the direction of instructor and ensemble founder Steven Biondo – at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Founders Auditorium. The performance will celebrate the traditional rhythms of West Africa, some of which date back to the 12th century. During the 45-minute show, the children will participate in the music-making process. The show will also include a brief history of the Malinke people of West Africa, and the origins of the rhythms and descriptions of the instruments. Admission is free. Witness how classroom and culture come together with a performance by the West African Drum Ensemble at noon on May 12 in the Quad. Let the students show you what they have learned during a semester of intense instruction. Directed by Steven Biondo, the performance promises an unbeatable experience. Admission is free.
