The University of La Verne Art Department on Monday celebrated the opening
of "Dazzling Visual Effects," the senior exhibit currently on
display in the Harris Art Gallery.
"Dazzling" showcases the talents of seniors John Stiefeling,
Wendy Uzarski and Christine Wichert.
Refreshments and an assortment of cheese and crackers were available
for those who attended the opening.
Art Department Chairwoman Ruth Trotter said she was pleased with the
opening ceremony.
"It went very well," she said. "We had a great response.
It was well attended by family
and friends."
The senior art exhibit is put on every year by senior art majors. It
is a chance for them to display their work and to explain the process behind
them.
It helps the students move one step closer to their professional careers
and is a culmination of their four years at ULV, Trotter said.
This year's exhibit includes Wichert's, "Scenes From A Porch,"
which consists of large, bright and lifelike paintings.
Stiefeling displays a digital print on a mechanical cylinder, mirror
box : "I Can't See Where I'm Going."
He also presented "137=1," a sound art piece, which consists
of 137 songs compressed on top of each other. When played, all 137 songs
play simultaneously.
Uzarski's installation displays her talents in the field of sculpting
and sound art.
She takes a more abstract approach in her pieces.
"Dazzling Visual Effects" will be on display in the Harris
Art Gallery through May 26. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through
Friday.
