The Leadership Education and Development program and the Office of Student Activities collaborated to create Leadership Training Week, which took place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4. Club and organization members were required to attend at least one seminar of the week for funds to be released.

Seminars that were offered were Holding Elections and the Transition of Power, Group Decision Making, How to Run a Meeting, Parliamentary Procedures, Writing Constitutions, Program Planning, The Role of the President, The Role of the Treasurer, and Marketing and Public Relations.

"I tried to pick what would be most important for clubs and organizations," said Brian MorganArmstrong, leadership development and transition program director. "I used reflection upon my experience of being a student leader when I was in college."

The nine seminars were taught by University of La Verne staff and members of the La Verne community. Parliamentary Procedure was taught by Ian Lising, instructor of speech and debate.

Jeannette Vagnozzi from La Verne town hall taught the Group Decision Makin" seminar where she presented a 6-step process for making decisions as a group.

Senior Sarah Negrete and junior Stacy Corso, Orientation Coordinators for 2002, conducted the Program Planning seminar.

The instructors for the seminars taught valuable information, and distributed packets to participants that contained information and contact numbers.

Students had a chance to share methods for advertising, elections and event planning.

This opportunity gave the students a chance to see how other organizations on campus work in a specific area.

Advisor training was also offered for club advisors.

The training addressed new policies and requirements such as the posting policy, the leadership reservation form for the new Leadership Center and the new facility request forms, which now go through Campus Safety.

MorganArmstrong is planning to have two more advisor training roundtable, which will be inclusive with the presidents of organizations.

"This is a way for us, the professionals on campus, can guarantee that there is some level of training and support for all our clubs and organizations," said MorganArmstrong.

Some of the organizations that were required to attend were ULVSA, Rainbow Alliance, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Chi Delta Omicron, Sigma Kappa, Iota Delta, Phi Sigma Sigma, African American Student Alliance, Associated Student Federation forum, Sister Circle, and the Brother's Forum.
