Kerry supporter questions future

I am heartbroken yet again; I cried Wednesday morning as I woke up to the news: “President Bush will serve a second term.” Even though he was ahead in the polls when I fell asleep, I hoped that by some chance Kerry would run up from behind and come out on top. Instead I woke up to the horrible news.

My strictly liberal family members were devastated. For months our family gatherings were filled with debates over Bush and his polemical calls.

When the Bush issue arose, as it always did at these dinners, I was able to hear both the good and bad traits of President Bush because while a large portion of my family is anti-Bush, we also have a few who line their cars’ bumpers with pro-Bush stickers.

I always stood quiet during those arguments. To many I seemed indifferent when it came to these issues, but in reality I took everything in and listened to both sides hoping to better educate myself before I voted.

By the time it came to vote, my rancorous attitude towards Bush allowed me to make my decision.

He will never be my President. My democratic friends and I know him as the idiot in the office. I refuse to believe he is in charge of the fate of our world, has control over my and my fellow citizens’ futures.

Haven’t the American people learned from their mistake the first time? Do we really have to have a second go at this before they regret their decisions?

When someone utters his name I feel myself tense up. It has gotten so bad that I literally watched a full hour of "Sesame Street" rather than watch him give his acceptance speech. Even Elmo holds more credibility with me than old Bushy.

I know that complaining will do no good, but I can’t sit back and pretend to be proud and have complete faith in the leader or our nation. I don’t understand how he won a second term.

Were there not enough facts in “Fahrenheit 9-11?”

Not enough truth of him being a constant liar as we invaded Iraq with the belief they were housing weapons of mass destruction and found out months later there were none?

What lies are we going to buy into this time around?

I love the way some pro-Bush supporters use the argument “name something Bush did wrong besides the war,” as if the war was a simple mistake that should be overlooked. A mistake that has claimed and will continue to claim innocent peoples’ lives.

While Kerry would not have been able to put a complete halt to the war, he would have entered the White House with a clean slate as compared to Bush who has caused citizens like myself to see him as a liar and merely a puppet. I have lost faith, trust and confidence in Bush. Kerry was someone I believed in, someone who I believed cared for the people of the United States.

But, alas, the decision has been made and while I’m stuck with a president I did not vote for, I can only hope that these next four years will play out smoother than the last.

But with ol’ W’s reputation, I’m sure we’re in for more lies, cover-ups and frustrating events which will prove harmful to us.

Maybe I should start looking into alternative living situations. I hear Canada is nice this time of year.
