Many students at the University of La Verne are involved in different clubs and organizations on campus. The majority of these clubs and organizations are recognized by the office of Student Life.

Being recognized means that there are at least 12 members in the club, they are eligible to receive Associated Student Federation (ASF) funding and are invited to participate in Club Fair and Homecoming. They are also eligible for any prize money connected with the above events, and are eligible for a club mailbox and use of ULV facilities as an organization.

In order to start a new club on campus, a group of at least three traditional undergraduates must register with Melissa Jaunal, coordinator of student programs, and the Office of Student Life.

This process is different than it was in the past, because organizations are now able to register without having the full 12 members it takes to be recognized on campus. These members are still invited to participate in Club Fair and Homecoming, and can still use any ULV facilities but are not eligible for any ASF funding until they can attain the 12-member requirement.

According to Jaunal, new clubs being recognized this year are ULV Society of Accountants and Prism Magazine. In progress is Alpha Kappa Psi, the professional business fraternity.

"These clubs have been around for awhile but have now just gotten around to turning in their paperwork to be recognized," said Jaunal.

There has been an interest this year in starting a surf club, a ski/snowboarding club and a rugby club. Jaunal has only heard of these clubs, and is still waiting for them to turn in their packet of information so they can be registered.

It is mandatory that all clubs and organizations submit information annually to gain and continue recognition at ULV. Some of the information included in the process is a completed recognition card, statement of purpose and goals for the year, most recent version of the Constitution and bylaws of the club/organization, an anti-hazing policy, a list of membership list that includes the 12 member requirement, all officers, and a campus adviser.

For more information about starting a new club, individuals can contact Melissa Jaunal at ext. 4250.
