One of the new clubs on campus is the University of La Verne Society of Student Accountants.

ULVSA is a club that began as just a thought last spring. Adviser Claudio Muñoz held an informational meeting last semester to see how many students were interested. Today the club has about 45 members, with the majority majoring in accounting.

Like many of the other clubs on campus, ULVSA has an executive council. Alana Herzog heads up the club as president and Anthony Velebil is vice president. The secretary is Stefanie Farry and the treasurer is Joo Young Pak. The public relations office is held by David Robles.

"Working in the accounting field, with other students, as well as professionals allows people to develop their people skills ,as well as get a taste for what it is like to be an accountant," she said.

One of the ways in which they develop skills is to have a panel of guests speakers come and tell them about the real world of accounting. At their last meeting, speakers came to ULV from such companies such as Arthur Andersen, LLP, the Franchise Tax Board and the Halferty Company for a question and answer session.

"It gave everyone the opportunity to ask questions about certain things that they were interested in like mistakes they've made, what they did to improve themselves or what business was like from an international angle," said Herzog.

Along with Alpha Kappa Psi and BSO, is hosting a public social on Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. in room 101A of the Landis Academic Center.

For more information on ULVSA, students can contact Muñoz at ext. 4209.
