Taking on the team from Lewis and Clark University from Oregon on Wednesday, the University of La Verne women's tennis team lost all nine matches to bring it to a 2-10 overall record for the season. The team is 0-6 in SCIAC.

Junior Sandy Thay was the only team member who came close to winning. She lost to Tessa Nolst-Trenite (3-6, 6-4, 1-6).

Sophomore Tracy Mac Arthur lost to Leslie Davidson (6-0, 6-1), junior Tracy Huigens lost to Nicolle Rager (6-2, 6-2), sophomore Pauline Duran lost to Kelly Lange (6-0, 6-2), senior Catherine Padilla lost to Lauren Blank (6-1, 6-0) and junior Emily Judd lost to Kathryn Figenshau (6-3, 6-2).

"We lost the match today but I'm pleased with their improvement. They're understanding better how to win points and tennis matches," said head coach Erin Hendricks on Wednesday.

In the doubles matches, the Leopards once again struggled. Judd and senior Tiffany Hall lost to Davidson and Blank (6-0, 6-1), Huigens and Mac Arthur lost to Figenshau and Rager (6-0, 6-3) and the match between Duran and Thay against Lange and Cat Mulhall was called off due to darkness. The score was unavailable.

Last Saturday, the Leopards traveled to Thousand Oaks to face the Cal Lutheran Regals. Despite the 7-2 loss, Hendricks was optimistic.

In a long match, Hall defeated Kaarin Benson (4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-0) and Huigens defeated Jennifer Otto (6-2, 6-3) to give La Verne its only wins of the day.

Mac Arthur lost to Alia Gustafson (6-3, 6-0), Padilla lost to Cindy Bear (6-2, 6-3), Judd lost to Heather Szabo (6-1, 6-2), and Thay lost to Ingrid Becker (6-0, 6-0).

La Verne had to fight in the doubles, but eventually lost all three again. Hall and Judd lost to Gustafson and Bear (6-3, 6-0) Mac Arthur and Padilla lost to Shane Anderson and Szabo (6-2, 6-4) and Huigens and senior Candice Valdenaire lost to Jill Embree and Karrie Matson (6-0, 6-4).

La Verne's next match is today against Whitman at 2 p.m. and its next SCIAC match is on April 12 against Whittier.
