The Associated Students Federation (ASF) Forum convened for the its first meeting of the 1997-1998 school year Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the West Dining Room.

President Dan Lougheed addressed agenda topics which included the budget, new members and upcoming activities

Future Plans

ASF Vice President Elizabeth Contreras said physical improvements, such as better lighting, parking and student services, were a concern of the Forum.

In light of that, an ASF committee for better campus lighting has been established. ASF allocated $5,000 for the project.

Planned activities for the year thus far include Cosmic Bowling, karaoke and a spelling bee, as well as Homecoming activities. ASF members also debated sponsoring "Fun Flicks," an event that costs about $2,100, but has had low participation in recent years. Members were encouraged to speak to their constituents about the desire for the event. They will convene again on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

Elections

The Forum has four positions open. The student body will elect freshman and transfer representatives. The Forum will appoint two more Forum representatives. Interested students are encouraged to submit an application.

Senior Adriana Macias was elected Board of Trustees Representative at the meeting.

Finances

The current balance in the ASF account is $108,343.81. Members discussed the importance of using the budget wisely and using funds to benefit the entire student body.

The Forum has also given more financial power to its Financial Review Board (FRB). The FRB was established last year as an advisory committee, but Lougheed said giving the all-student board the power to make financial decisions will increase the efficiency of the Forum.
