For the last two years, the University of La Verne has offered a class called General Motors Marketing Internship during the spring semester.

In appreciation, the SGRO Promo Association, which runs these programs, sent the students a check for $500 as a donation to the School of Business.

General Motors works together with a General Motors dealer to support an internship where students run a promotion for them.

This past year, Crestview Cadillac in West Covina sponsored 13 ULV students and gave them $2,500 to create a promotion for them.

The students did research and found the Orange Blossom festival in West Covina and ran an entire Saturday promotion using the Cadillacs.

The students did the publicity, budgeting, promotion, prizes, public speaking, and used a promotional management textbook.

"It gave the students a chance to actually get a certificate from General Motors, that says you were a General Motors marketing intern. You did some work for a big company," said Dr. Janis Dietz, who teaches the course during the spring semester.

The money received from SGRO will be used to buy a video camera. Next spring, Dr. Dietz would like to videotape this event and the camera will also come in handy for other business functions.

Rocio Toscano was the President of the event and says it was "good hands on experience. It's a good program. I think its one of the best things I've done in college, as far as an internship." She recommends the program to anyone that wants hands on experience.

The class will be held on Monday and Thursday next year in the spring, from 3-5 p.m. Students from all majors are welcome and 13 are needed. The students will be working in an advertising atmosphere. The course will be held under ECBU 368, Promotional Management. For more information, contact Dr. Dietz at ext. 4213 or SGRO at (800) 790-4332.
