Phi Sigma Sigma raised more than $300 in its second annual 24-hour Rock-a-thon,
compared to last year's total. They began rocking the chairs on Oct. 21
at 3 p.m. until Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
The women all participated in getting television stations, businesses,
families and friends to donate a flat pledge for their Rock-a-thon. All
of the money raised goes to the Phi Sigma Foundation. When the Phi Sigma
Foundation receives all of the monies from the entire chapter, then it will
write one check to the National Kidney Fund.
The National Kidney Foundation is the chapter's national philanthropy,
which is the main organization that it supports.
"Some girls have relatives with kidney problems, so this really
hits home," said Jessi Muell, chairperson for Phi Sigma Sigma.
Phi Sigma Sigma has not yet collected all of its pledge forms, but the
members have already collected $1,400.
"It was hard work, but I loved it," said Muell.
Forty-seven women participated in the Rock-a-thon on four-hour shifts.
Aramark supplied the women with coffee, chips and snacks to nibble on in
order for them to stay awake. There was also music playing to help keep
the rockers alert throughout the night.
