Dear Editor,
I would like to praise Erica Aguilar for writing "ASF
needs new attitude, jokes" [Feb. 13]. I attended the first ASF
meeting of the spring semester and I also noticed the disorganization of
ASF. I attended the meeting because I was requesting funds for the Senior
Retreat. I was disappointed that the meeting started at least 10 minutes
late because half of the forum members were late. It was also disturbing
to discover (through Aguilar's column) that there was chatting and wisecracking
during the meetings of an organization that has a budget of $57,051.86.
What I also can not believe are the events ASF itself is programming.
What is our student body going to benefit from a comedian who costs $2,000
and a taping of "The Price is Right?" Sure, ULV will get some
laughs, but I can turn on my TV for free for that matter.
ASF should support programs like Senior Retreat, more guest speakers
and cultural events. Although the Financial Review Board allocated $1,000
for Senior Retreat, I was displeased that ASF did not fund $527.50 for Senior
Retreat, an important ULV tradition. What is $527.50 from a $57,051.86 budget?
Why didn't ASF allocate at least $527.50 for Senior Retreat, when they allocated
$6,000 for a gym floor and $5,000 to KULV for transmitters?
The theme for this year's Senior Retreat is "Looking back...Looking
forward..." Let's just hope the Senior Retreat Committee will acquire
the rest of the funds for Senior Retreat so that the seniors will have something
to "look forward" to.
