New Campus Times and La Verne Magazine editors have
been selected for the fall semester. Sophomore Jennifer Parsons, who has
been on staff for three semesters, will be Campus Times editor in
chief. Junior Araceli Esparza has also served three semesters for the Campus
Times staff and will take the position of La Verne Magazine editor.
Senior Michael P. Bailey, who has been on the photography staff for two
semesters, will be the Campus Times photography editor.
With a new Campus Times editor in chief, photography editor and
La Verne Magazine editor selected for the 1998 fall semester, the
University of La Verne Communications Department looks forward to achievement,
motivation and dedication.
Sophomore Jennifer Parsons will return to the Campus Times next
fall as editor in chief.
"I've wanted to be editor in chief since the first semester I was
on the newspaper. I'm very excited and I think that I will be a very motivated
and enthusiastic editor, which I hope will make my staff just as motivated,"
she said.
Campus Times adviser Eric Bishop said, "I think she'll do
a thorough job as editor. She has her thumb on the pulse of the campus and
she will lead the staff in all aspects."
Parsons was the managing editor of the Campus Times this semester
and will be a member of the editorial board for Prism magazine, Orientation
Week Leader (OWL) co-coordinator and co-pledge educator for Iota Delta Sorority
in September.
"I think the biggest challenge that I'll have to face is making
the connection with the staff of as both their peer and their leader. I
want them to feel like they can come to me and that I'll understand, but
I also want the job done," Parsons said.
Another edition to the publication leadership is senior photography
editor Michael P. Bailey.
"I feel honored that I was actually considered for this position,"
he said.
Bailey has been on the photography staff for two semesters and is also
on the ULV track and field team. He was nominated Homecoming King last fall.
Bailey said, "I'm looking forward to working with Gary [Colby,
professor of photography] next semester. I have some new ideas as to the
responsibilities and role of the photography editor and I look forward to
putting our brains together to make magic."
Colby, photography adviser for both publications, said, "The staff
was very conscientious this semester. Michael is born out of hard work and
productivity. He is a perfectionist and his work is sensitive. He is kind
of unforgiving with photography and that is good because he is a good motivator."
A new member and editor in chief of La Verne Magazine is sophomore
Araceli Esparza.
Esparza was features editor of the Campus Times this semester,
and also participated in summer service last year. She will be an OWL and
will be participating in summer service again in Boise, Idaho.
"I hope to just keep up the reputation that the magazine has right
now, which is to be one of the best magazine publications in California.
I want to continue making it one of the most prestigious publications and
help keep its readers and writers involved in its content," Esparza
said.
Dr. George Keeler, La Verne Magazine adviser, said, "Araceli
is a standard setter. She helps students live up to their potential and
she gives a spark of enthusiasm to everything she does."
"I'm looking forward to a commitment of work and professionalism
from the staff that we'll have," Bishop said.
