After competing in the Cal Lutheran Invitational last week in Thousand Oaks, the men's and women's cross country teams got a taste of what to expect before entering tomorrow's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet in La Mirada.

The Third Annual Cal Lutheran Invitational hosted a total of five schools: La Verne, Cal Lutheran, Redlands, Chapman and Whittier. Excluding Chapman, the other four schools are SCIAC schools.

Sophomore Mario Guerrero led the Leopards with a time of 28:36.3, placing seventh out of 35 runners. Freshman Hermes Iribe had the second best time for the group with a time of 30:40.33 (18th place).

Other performances include sophomores Faust Obeso with a time of 30:52.76 (21st place) and Kyle Young with 31:07.96 (23rd place).

In the women's competition, freshman Quency Long had the team best with 22:47.92 (19th place). Others: sophomore Mary Terry, 25:06.00 (29th place); freshman Juanita Garcia, 25:08.95 (30th place); freshman Trisha Garcia, 26:15.85 (33rd place); and freshman Pam Hill with 29:18.88 (37th place).

The Redlands men's and Cal Lutheran women's squads took the No. 1 spots for the meet. Both La Verne teams placed last in their respected sides.

"Tomorrow we need to run our best of the season," said sophomore Faust Beso. "We can't think of the competition and how good they are but only worry of ourselves."
