Due to popular demand, the Associated Student Federation (ASF) Forum
has scheduled a spring formal for all University of La Verne students.
"A Night in Cancun" will take place April 10 at the American
West Cultural Center in Anaheim.
Featuring a deejay, live salsa dance, karaoke and all-you-can-eat fajitas
and appetizers, the formal will also have all-you-can-drink soft drinks
and smoothies.
"Everything is separated. You won't be hearing the deejay when
you do karaoke," said senior Michael Morrow, ASF president.
The formal was brought back by ASF, after receiving one-third of requests
from suggestion boxes throughout campus.
Due to conflicts with past formals, "A Night in Cancun," will
offer students more than just a dance. It offers different types of entertainment.
ASF has also planned for a shuttle bus to take students there and back if
transportation is a problem. Students interested in riding with the shuttle
bus should sign up at the time they purchase tickets.
The bus will only be traveling once each way.
Eboni Stanford, junior diversified major, chair of the committee, said
there will be a photographer available as well.
"We're working so hard. Hopefully they [students] support our dance,"
said Stanford.
The committee also hopes to provide complimentary pictures to each guest,
while also allowing them to purchase personal packets from the photographer.
Tickets will be sold at the University Bookshoppe. Prices are $15 for
singles, $20 for couples and for groups of five or more, tickets cost $8
per person.
"The dance is formal optional, semi-formal required," said
Stanford.
The formal allows for a minimum of 200 people prior to the deadline
March 26. If there is not enough people signed up for the formal, ASF will
cancel the event.
"We made it inexpensive, we hope people go," said Stanford.
