The University of La Verne's Associated Student Federation (ASF) Forum
met in the West Dining Room Wednesday, April 14, at 8:35 a.m. Forum members
updated plans for future student activities and reviewed plans for Earth
Week.
Don Flora, women's volleyball coach, and Lura Poggi, director of University
Relations, also requested donations from the Forum for the renovation of
the Hanawalt Center.
Upcoming Events
Among the plans under way for upcoming student activities, the Forum
has organized a Free Day of Fun, a night of bowling and an evening of entertainment
as some of its events.
A Free Day of Fun, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 7,
will feature entertainment specialties such as a velcro wall, mock Sumo
wrestling, a money vault and balloon-bounce boxing.
The Forum is also looking into a bowling night for ULV students at Chaparral
Lanes in San Dimas May 13.
In addition, ASF will sponsor an evening of entertainment at Bullwinkle's
Family Fun Center in Upland. Among the features at the event will be miniature
golf and go-cart racing, as well as other specialties.
Thus far, complete details of these events have not been confirmed.
Specific information about each of these events will be posted through advertisement
and fliers in the future.
Earth Week
Involving itself in the annual Earth Week, the Forum will co-sponsor
several events for next week's Earth Week celebrations.
Monday, a Teach-in Program to discuss the situations in Kosovo is scheduled
to take place in the Quad, and on Tuesday, an Earth Fair will be in the
Quad from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Other events for Tuesday include a discussion of the environmental hazards
of the Rock at 2 p.m. at the Rock, and an Earth Summit debate in the Cabaret
Theatre at 3 p.m.
"Earth First!," a program in La Fetra Hall in which environmentalists
will share thoughts on eco-defense and radical journalism, will be presented
Thursday. On Friday, an electric car displayed in the University Mall will
demonstrate the advances of electricity and technology in today's world.
Hanawalt Center
The Forum voted to allocate a total of $5,000 for renovations to the
Hanawalt Fitness Center. The funds will be donated to the Athletics Department
pending stipulations to extend hours of the Center.
