Under constant offensive bombardment, the Caltech Beavers dropped three straight games to the University of La Verne this weekend.

Following a 30-0 win on Friday evening, the ULV baseball team inflicted more punishment, as the hosting Beavers dropped two more on Saturday, 16-2 and 28-8.

In the first game on Saturday, the Leopards' offense exploded early. Of the first nine batters, seven scored in the first inning.

Caltech pitcher Alan Rosenwinkel settled down after his opening inning struggles and held the Leopards scoreless through the next three innings, until La Verne tacked on seven more runs.

Key players for La Verne included first baseman Russel Riehl, who went 1-for-4 with 3 RBI, and second baseman Brian Oulman, who went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Caltech was able to score twice this game. One run came when catcher Tim Buschman knocked in center fielder Grant Williams from third with a grounder to the shortstop.

The second run came when La Verne third baseman Mike Guzman's error allowed Kevin Bradley to score from third.

Caltech opted to call the game in the seventh inning with La Verne leading 16-2.

Game two found La Verne with an entirely different lineup than game one, when head coach Bobby Lee elected to start some of the players from his bench. This proved to be a strong decision, as these players and some of the substitute players who would enter the game later would continue La Verne's domination, taking this game 28-8.

Caltech led the second game through the fourth inning, scoring four in the first inning alone, as La Verne starting pitcher Scott Hughes struggled with his control. Two more runs in each the second and fourth innings extended the Beaver's lead to 8-4, until La Verne scored seven in the top of the fifth to take an 11-8 lead, one which it would not relinquish.

La Verne as a team went 30-for-57 at the plate in the game and went a combined 45-for-94 hitting as a team over the double-header.
