One week after a runner-up finish, the University of La Verne golf team placed a disappointing fourth in the second of two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) 18-hole Tournaments, seriously hurting its chances to move up in the standings.

The Leopards team total of 338 tied them with Occidental for a distant fourth-place finish at the Annandale Country Club Monday, behind a top three separated by only two points.

ULV is currently tied with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for third place in the conference standings.

However, the Leopards have only Tuesday's 36-hole SCIAC Championship to earn points, while the Stags have two additional matches remaining, one against Whittier College, which has a 1-5 record.

That means La Verne must finish higher than CMS in the SCIAC Championship and then play a waiting game, hoping second place Cal Lutheran defeats the Stags in match play.

In Monday's tournament, Cal Lu finished two shots ahead of CMS, with a total of 314. Redlands was second with 315, led by Tres Kirkebo's match-best 72.

La Verne can gain a possible 16 points from the conference championships, but the Stags can earn up to 20.
