Bookstore, Some Crust celebrate grand opening

The University of La Verne bookstore, along with Some Crust Bakery,
held its grand opening Thursday, Sept. 16, at its new location on the corner
of Bonita Avenue and D Street.
During the dedication ceremony, President Stephen Morgan acknowledged
the city of La Verne and the La Verne Redeveloping Agency, who were in partnership
with the University on the project.
Dr. Morgan also recognized the Business Improvement District, along
with Laird Construction Company, KAR Construction Inc., and a host of subcontractors.
"I am pleased with the new location. It presents good visibility
and will reach out to the university and the community," said Dr. Morgan.
The bookstore has two floors. The first floor has ULV merchandise, school
supplies, magazines and a variety of trade books.
"Now that we have more space, we are able to expand in many of
the fiction and non fiction sections, such as religion, travel, business,
gay and lesbian studies, and education," said Robert Gibson, general
manager of the ULV bookstore.
The second floor contains all textbooks and the University's Management
Information Systems (MIS) Department. However, MIS is independent from the
bookstore.
"I am amazed at the new look. It's bigger so there's more room.
I like the fact that the books are on the second floor," said junior
Manny Escalante, movement and sports science major.
Some Crust has also settled in to the location, as it occupies 650 square
feet just inside the east entrance of the building.
The bakery features European baked goods, blended drinks, pastries,
European coffee and Fosselman's Ice Cream.
Tables and chairs are set along the patio to provide for a casual lounging
atmosphere.
Larry Feemster, owner of Some Crust, said that faculty and students
can receive a 10 percent discount upon presenting their ULV identification.
"Our goal is to provide ULV with hospitality," Feemster said.
"I think that having the bakery inside the store is great. You
can just go inside with your friends, buy something from the bookstore,
and grab something to eat afterward," said sophomore public administration
major Hermes Iribe.
The bookstore is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Some Crust Bakery is open 7 a.m to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and
7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
