A brand new telephone number was introduced to the University of La Verne's Campus Safety Department in order to modernize the now-expired system.

Over the years, problems have occurred involving incoming calls and the staff members that have received them. Some of these problems were constant interference in the calls, delayed messages and service, to name a few.

Unsatisfied customers dealt with delayed messages and interference.

Because of all the recurring mistakes in the security phone system, new developments have made the system more functional.

For all calls directed to campus security, dial from off-campus (909) 208-4903. Campus phones need only dial ext. 4950 or #6666.

During the summer, individual cellular telephones from Air Touch phone company took the place of the walkie-talkie devices that caused static and miscommunication between callers.

Although these new phones were just introduced, the Air Touch cellular phones were switched to another company because of new arising issues.

NexTel, the University's current cellular phone company, introduces a new telephone number, along with fast-paced service to those in need of it.

These technologically advanced cell phones eliminate message delays and security officers are now able to understand the caller without any interference, thereby increasing reaction time for assistance.

John Lentz, director of Campus Safety and Transportation, said, "Within a few weeks time, the new cell phone number will be in full swing until the previous number dies out of use."

Although the telephone number has changed, the public phone security buttons on campus have already been altered to dial the new number for security.
