The Featured Faculty Program was developed in an effort to recognize and celebrate the contributions of faculty in enhancing student learning through the use of curriculum and technology strategies in the classroom. The Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking nominations for faculty who excel in the use of technology for teaching and learning in a number of areas, such as instructional design, strategies in the classroom, online learning, mentoring and research. Applications for nomination are gathered from both faculty and students at the University of La Verne. One faculty will be selected per month during the fall and winter semesters. Faculty winners are featured in campus publications, and are highlighted in programs throughout the year.

Suzanne Beaumaster, Ph.D.
College of Business and Public Management (CBPM)
Department of Public and Health Administration
Associate Professor of Public Administration
Chair, DPA Program
Dr. Suzanne Beaumaster, Associate Professor of Public Administration, has been using new technologies to enhance curriculum and teaching for the DPA program, Doctorate of Public Administration. Recently, the program has instituted a hybrid curriculum, were some of the students will take a portion of their course work outside the classroom in a hybrid format.
Dr. Beaumaster states, "In order to achieve the outcomes that we like to have for these students we are making use of podcasting, and I have been experimenting with it for about a year and a half now. What we are trying to do is provide the hybrid students with the same general classroom experience, or as close to it as we can, as the regular on the ground students are having. So what we are doing now is taking some of our classroom lectures and discussions, and providing it to our hybrid students through podcasting."
Watch Dr. Beaumaster's interview and excerpts from her presentation at the 2006 Faculty Showcase sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning. Also Included in this series of videos is a demonstration on how to create a simple podcast using the software GarageBand by Apple Inc. Representative Terry Schulenburg.
