Advancement to Candidacy Meeting
Advancement to Candidacy is done at a meeting of the student with two faculty members from the program. One faculty member must be full-time and the other may be either full-time or a Learning Group Leader. A typical meeting requires about 1 hour. Advancement to Candidacy can be done any time a student meets the Criteria for Advancement. The faculty will determine the two faculty members who will hold the meeting and the student will schedule the meeting. The two faculty members are responsible to;
- Request Advancement to Candidacy packet from the office.
- Hold the meeting.
- Cover the areas of review with the student.
- Recommend if the student is to be Advanced to Candidacy
- Recommend how the student can remediate any deficiencies.
- Return the completed Advancement to Candidacy packet to the office.
Upon Advancement to Candidacy the student may acquire a Study Advisor and, with the agreement of the Study Advisor, two additional members of the Study Committee. The remainder of the Research process is under the supervision of the Study Committee and the Graduate Office. If Advanced to Candidacy is conditional the student may not proceed with the Research Process until all of the conditions are satisfied, however, the student may petition to start working with a Study Advisor.
