

How many years to the program?
3 years of coursework, plus the dissertation.
How long does it usually take to finish the dissertation?
About 10% of the students do their dissertation in year 3; most finish in year 4.
What percent finish the program?
More than 80% finish the coursework and of these more than 75% finish their dissertation and receive their degrees.
May I transfer credit from another University?
Only in statistics and research upon verification of content; otherwise no.
If I have a California Second Tier Credential will you waive units?
As of Fall 2005, you will receive one tuition free course. You must attend the course, but do not have to pay for it.
What if I have a life credential? Will you waive units then?
No
How many units do I take each semester?
Generally 9 semester hours.
When do semesters start? Can I start in any semester?
Fall semester starts in September and ends in late January. Spring semester starts in early February and ends mid-July. You may enter in the Fall for the full program or the Spring for the Research sequence.
Do I have to come to classes on campus?
No and yes. During the semester you regularly meet with your Learning Group in strategically
located areas. There are five weekend Practicums held regionally. Students come on campus for
an eight-day Community Event in July. There are five additional days on campus in July as part of the research sequence.
Where are the off campus locations?
The current Learning Groups are Capitol (Sacramento Area), Humboldt (Eureka), La Verne (ULV Campus), Redwood (Windsor), Sierra (Sierra/Nevada), Merced, San Jose, Los Angeles, Inland Empire (San Bernardino/Riverside), San Diego, Valencia, San Luis Obispo. Learning Groups are created when there are six or more students in that region/area.
