The University of La Verne offers both the major and the minor in French as well as a major in International Business and Language with a concentration in French language. Students equally interested in French and another academic discipline may choose to double major in French.

The French major at La Verne meets the requirements of the state of California for subject matter competency for teachers of French.

B.A. in French- Required Courses

Additional upper-division French courses in French to complete 40 semester hours in French. Many of these may be taken abroad. Study Abroad Requirement. French majors must complete a year of study in France and select a curriculum that includes at least one class in French Phonetics, Linguistics or Advanced Syntax. Comprehensive Exam. The senior comprehensive exam tests language proficiency in French.

Minor in French

Students may declare a minor in French upon the approval of French Program Chair if the student has completed 20 semester hours of upper-division work in French or if the student has completed 24 semester hours in the field of which 16 are upper-division. Some of these units may be taken abroad.
